About

My Story

Hello, I’m Blair Bean, a theatre maker and educator with a Masters in Theatre Education from New York University. My work spans across prison theatre, theatre for young audiences, and applied theatre, with a focus on cultivating safe spaces for creative exploration and selecting content that resonates with young artists. Throughout my journey, I’ve explored the intersections of art and social change, and my passion lies in exploring Jewish narratives in storytelling—a theme I researched extensively in my thesis.

During my time at NYU, I discovered that my directing and playwright aesthetic is grounded in a naturalistic approach, focusing on authenticity and emotional depth. This has become the cornerstone of my creative work as I continue to explore sensitive and elevated narratives through the lens of theatre.

In addition to my personal projects, I’ve had the privilege of working with organizations like Arts Ignite, where I supported the Newcomer Summer Youth Program, and I currently work as an Associate for Judith Ann Abrams Productions. I’m also involved in several exciting current projects, including Rutka as an Education Associate and as a Dramaturg for the Alliance of Jewish Theatre.

My Story
In early 2021, amidst the challenges of the pandemic and the grief of losing my brother two years prior, my mom and I decided to start a blog together. We were both drawn to the idea of sharing our thoughts and connecting with others during such a vulnerable time. This collaboration became a beautiful space for us to express our voices and explore our artistic sides. Over time, our paths began to diverge as we each found our own creative direction. If you’re curious about my mom’s journey, you can visit her blog at meetandgrieve.com.

As for me, I’m living my dream in New York City, continuing my journey as a theatre maker and creator. I’ve decided to continue this blog and other writings as a way to share my evolving thoughts, reflections, and artistic explorations. Through this space, I reflect on my journey in the theatre world and explore sensitive narratives that are meaningful to me.

I’ve come to realize that life, like art, is never truly “complete.” There is always something more, always something to explore. Here, you’ll find unfinished yet finished work, thoughts in progress, and an ever-evolving artistic journey. Art, like life, is about growth and imperfection. It’s about embracing the process and connecting with others through storytelling. Everyone has a meaningful story to share, and storytelling is the most powerful tool we have to connect and understand one another.

Thank you for being here. I invite you to join me on this journey of art, exploration, and connection.

Warmly,
Blair
